For Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, this is the part just before you get married

For Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, this is the part just before you get marriedAlia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor were recently in Delhi to promote their upcoming film 2 States.

Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor have had to navigate more than just 2 States as part of the publicity tour for their new film, releasing this Friday. Thankfully, Delhi is the last stop, say the celluloid couple, currently in the capital promoting the North Indian-South Indian love story. The rumoured real life jodi describe this final stage as that moment just before you get married. It's like a sehrabandi. This is that part when you're tying the turban and are about to enter the marriage," says Arjun.

For Arjun, the role of a young Punjabi man came with a specific set of challenges. "To play within those shackles and those confines of playing a budding writer who is also an IIT student, it is unique and it is sometimes easier to be loud and much more difficult to be subtle but that the audience on 18th April will go and decide and tell me. I guess they'll give me the answer I am looking for," says the Ishaqzaade star.

Two-film-old Alia Bhatt, who plays a Tamil Brahmin management graduate in the movie, says she didn't feel bad at all about father Mahesh Bhatt publicly picking Arjun's performance over hers in 2 States. "In fact, I was happy because I said the same thing in all my interviews. He surprised my dad and I had told everybody that Arjun is going to surprise you," Alia told NDTV. While there is nothing but easy camaraderie on display between the actors now, Arjun insists that Alia became "star struck" when she first met him. "I was," agrees Alia. "We were doing a look test and I had not seen him except for on screen. It's normal, right? Only for 10-15 minutes," she explains, as a chuffed Arjun preens to the camera.(Also read: Alia is fantastic but Arjun stole my heart in 2 States, says Mahesh Bhatt )

On a more serious note, Arjun says shooting 2 States made him new friends: "We didn't know each other, so there was a sense of discovery of people. We were for 30 to 40 days like a family together. It's good when I realize that I have too many fantastic friends to hold on now."

2 States, directed by Abhishek Varman and based on author Chetan Bhagat's novel, releases on April 18. It also stars Amrita Singh, Revathy and Ronit Roy.
