Wildlife photographer Marc Mol was on a helicopter ride over Zambia’s South Luagwa National Park when more than 100 crocodiles proceeded to feast on a dead hippopotamus, driving away a herd of hippos mourning their fallen friend.
According to the UK Metro, Mol wrote on his blog that the hippo most likely died from anthrax.
The enormous dead creature attracted the army of crocodiles looking to get a piece of the hippo and the rest of the animals, who had to postpone the funeral to flee for their lives.
The images show the herd swimming upstream, successfully avoiding the crocodiles.
Though the crocodiles are clearly portrayed as the predators here, hippos are responsible for far more human deaths in Africa.
