chief Abu Azmi saying that women having sex with or without consent
should be hanged.
“Any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged. Both should be hanged,” he said.
He also said in the interview given to a Mumbai daily Mid Day that sex out of marriage should be punished by stoning.
Yadav had received heavy criticism for saying at a rally in Moradabad, that the death sentence, as punishment, for rape was too harsh. "Ladkon se aisi galtiyan ho jati hain, to iska matlab yeh to nahi ki unhe phaansi de di jaaye (Boys make mistakes, but this doesn't mean you hang them)," he told the gathering.
“As per Islam, if two people go to a hotel and have sex with consent, even that should be banned. They should be punished," Azmi said.
“If I say something, that would be against my religion, but I won't talk against my religion. The punishment should be death by hanging,” he replied when asked about what should be the quantum of punishment.
He also seemed to defend his party head Mulayam Singh who on Thursday questioned capital punishment for rapists.
“I don't know what context he said it in. But, at times, the wrong people are awarded the death penalty. Boys do it in josh, but what can I say in this? The death sentence should be given. I won't speak against Islam,” he said in the interview.
'Shamed by father-in-law's statements'
Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia has distanced herself from controversial comments made by her father-in-law, Abu Azmi.
She expressed her views on Twitter, by saying: "If wot im reading about my father in laws statements r true then me and Farhan are deeply embarrassed n ashamed."
"We surely do nottt share this mindset...its disrespectful to women.if these statements r true then its sad, her another tweet read.
In 2009, Takia married Abu Azmi's son Farhan. The restaurants of Abu Azmi are managed by his son Farhan Azmi and Ayesha.
